The History of Minecraft
Minecraft's journey began with Markus Persson, also known as Notch, a Swedish game programmer. Inspired by his earlier base-building game "RubyDung" and the block-based mining game "Infiniminer," Notch started developing Minecraft in 2009.
The initial public alpha build of Minecraft was released on May 17, 2009, on the TIGSource forums. He continued to develop the game, adding features like tools, mobs, and new dimensions. In 2011, with the game's popularity soaring, Notch released the full 1.0 version of Minecraft, an update called "Adventure Update", on November 18, 2011.
Minecraft has been updated numerous times over the years, introducing new elements and game mechanics. Some notable updates include The Pretty Scary Update (2012), The Redstone Update (2013), The Combat Update (2016), The Update Aquatic (2018), and The Nether Update (2020). More recent updates include the Caves & Cliffs update (2021), The Wild Update (2022), The Trails & Tales Update (2023), The Tricky Trials Update (2024), and The Chase the Skies update (2025).
