Why do people believe that cruelty rules the world around them

Throughout history, cruelty has been used as a tool for social control, punishment, and deterrence. Public spectacles of punishment, tribal justice, and state-sanctioned violence have reinforced the idea that harm can be justified for order, loyalty, or power. In some cultures, cruelty is normalized or even glorified as a sign of strength or righteousness.

People assume that because they are cruel. Everybody else thinks the same. Due to this their mindset leads to them commiting crime.

From an evolutionary perspective, aggression and the capacity for cruelty have deep roots in early hominid survival. Predation, competition for resources, and dominance struggles in ancestral environments shaped brains that could inflict pain on others to secure food, mates, or territory. These instincts persist in modern humans, even if expressed differently.
